IMPORTANT LANDMARKS OF THE UNITED STATES – (PART 2)

The United States of America constitutes of 50 states, one federal district, five territories which are self-governing and three hundred and twenty-six reservations. This makes the country a huge composition of assorted land area, stretching from beaches to the mountains and the deserts. These natural spots and manmade features remain focus of attraction for tourists from all over the world. US provides variety of land marks to all type of visitors like white sand beaches, lush green pasture lands, forest terrain, canyons, snow covered mountains, historical places, art galleries, well managed modern cities and towns, and deserts. 

In one of our other articles, we have clearly enumerated different seasons in United States and areas and places which can be visited as per weather conditions. This article is a sequel to the article describing landmarks suggested to be visited in states. It must be understood that it is not possible that all the places be mentioned in a single writing, therefore, what we are proposing may be in addition to what you (readers) already know have planned to visit.

New York – Statue of Liberty

This 151 feet tall Lady Liberty is the most recognized symbol of American Freedom and one of the best landmarks to be visited in the States. It’s a copper sculpture gifted by people of France to the USA. It is replicating Libertas, who was accepted as the Goddess of Liberty by the Romans. The statue carries a torch and a Tabula Ansata in other, with dates (4 July 1776) inscribed over it.   

Seattle – Pike Palace Market 

This market is a frequently visited area which possesses areas of historical importance as well places for modern fun activities. This place is known to be more than a hundred years old which oversees the waterfront of the Elliot Bay. The market will let you see and eat a vast range of enjoyable food, including the sea food dishes. In addition to a well-orchestrated layout of the city, you can also see the first ever site of the famous Starbuck coffee shop in Pike Palace Market. There are different themed events which are planned occasionally in the town, which if joined, will add to the entertainment planned and expected during the vacations. 

Las Vegas – Strip in Las Vegas

Let us introduce you to the busiest areas of the States. The night lights and the fun-loving people, locals as well the visitors, make the town even more appealing to the travelers. An estimated strength of thirty million people moves in and out of the city for visiting it for its Las Vegas Strip and variety of other wild activities it offers. The casinos in the city, entertainment shows, magic shows, street performers, and other fun opportunities can make the trip even more colorful and worthy. The Las Vegas Trip has emerged as the top most attraction place for tourists from within as well as from outside the country. DO NOT MISS IT IF VISITING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA THIS YEAR OR THE NEXT.

Washington DC – Union Station

This is one of the busiest stations of the States which brings in the greatest number of tourists to the city estimated to be around 36 – 37 million each year. This station allows the visitors to take any destination they want in the DC. In addition to the transportation facility, the Union Station also offers number of healthy and worthy dining facilities, shopping opportunities, and a theatre, which add to your amusement while in transit for destination. Even long halts are also easy to spend at the Union Station with a lot of fun offered here. The boat or a cruise trip in New York will let you enjoy the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan Skyline, The Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, Empire State Building and the South Street Seaport along with many more astonishing and memorable sites. So do not miss the cruise if you are in New York.

New York – Central Park

This park is most adored amongst all the parks of the country. The town is also the most active town of the country and this park is the best place for you to step out of the hard routine and spend some memorable leisure time alone or with family. More than 40 million people visit the park each year, which clearly demonstrates that the park is really a loved place of the tourists and the residents as well. Central Park Zoo, the William Shakespeare Monument, Bethesda Fountain, Nature Observatory and the beautiful lake in the park are obvious attraction sites of this park. 

New York – Times Square

The Times Square is located in the busiest part of the city, rather it would be appropriate to say the Times Square is the busiest part of the city. This is the first visual imagination that comes to mind when we listen to the word NEW YORK, that is why over 42 million people visit it each year. The Times Square offers any imaginable entertainment which you can plan, hence attracts a huge number of tourists visiting the United States. It is sometimes referred to as the CROSS ROADs OF THE WORLD as well. 

San Francisco – Alcatraz Island

1.5 miles off the San Francisco Bay shore lies “The Rock”, which was a military fortification and a federal prison from 1934 to 1963. Today tourists are allowed to visit the famous location to witness the cells and prison from inside. For those who love the history of the States, Alcatraz Island becomes a must visit place. The important point to cater for when planning a visit to the Alcatraz is that you must book a ticket for the cruise and a guide (preferably) in advance, else you may face difficulty on the day of arrival at the site. We suggest if you take the Muir Woods & Sausalito 3-in-1 Tour for a better orientation. 

Washington DC – Lincoln Memorial

Built in the honor of the 16th president of the United States, this monument is located on the Western End of the National Mall in Washington. The building is designed in line with the Greed Doric Temple, which makes it a major tourists attraction owing to the structural beauty and affiliation to Abraham Lincoln. This ranked 7th on the 2007 list of Americas Favorite Architecture by American Institute of Architecture. Vietnam Veterans memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and World War-II Memorial on the National Mall make the area more frequently visited by the tourists. Visiting the Memorial at night makes it even more beautiful to see. The bike tours offered in Washington for visiting important memorials and spots, make the trip more enjoyable for the visitors.

Hawaii – USS Arizona Memorial

The memorial marks the place where 1102 sailors out of 1177 total marines on board in USS Arizona were killed in the famous attack of Peral Harbor in 1941. The memorial was built in 1962 and is visited by over 2 million people each year. The design of the memorial is in shape of a 184 feet long bridge floating over the ship and accommodating over 200 persons. It is further divided into three parts, the entry, assembly room and the shrine. If you are visiting Honolulu, never miss the Memorial as it incites the element of Patriotism. In addition, you can also visit the Iolani Palace, King Kamehameha Statue and the Punchbowl National Cemetery during the trip.
